Human Body Systems, Wrapping it all up!!!!

This week you will be wrapping up your unit over life and the human body and will be reflecting on two things.

First... Discuss how your understanding of what it means to be alive has changed over the last several weeks?  Think about Mrs. Gren, Body organization, and the individual systems we covered.

and Second...

How has your understanding of the human body changed since going to medical school? Explain.

Make sure to answer both questions for full credit on this blog.   You may work on this at any time this week, but it is due no later than midnight on Sunday December 22nd.  Don't forget to look at the upper right hand corner of this page to make sure that you are signed in before replying below and write your rough draft on another document (Google Doc) to make sure that you do not lose your work!

Have a great break!

Living or Dead

This week I want you to take a few moments to think about a real life scenerio.  Let's pretend that someone you know is involved in a car crash and is hurt really bad.  You hear that they have damage to their brain, in fact you hear that they are "Brain Dead".  Based on our definition of life and the seven processes, is that person still living?  Explain your thoughts!

What have we learned so far??? A Reflection:)!

This week I want you to reflect on what you have learned over the past few weeks in our discussions about the scientific method.  I want you to take 10 minutes over the next few days to sit and think about what we have discussed and what you have learned during this time.  I am not interested in what we did, I want you to focus on what you learned!  This reflection should be several sentences long as you will be reflecting for 10 minutes!  I look forward to reading your posts.

Please remember to put your first name, last initial and period number somewhere in your post!

The Open Forum!

Hi and welcome to our Open Forum.  This week we do not have an actual graded blog, we'll only be blogging twice a month on average, but I did not want this space to go idle just because we don't have something official!  Thus, the open forum.

This week this space is reserved for us to share anything interesting we can find related to science.  I will post some videos, or links that I find in my science related web surfing through out the week and invite you to do the same.  Simply click on the "# Comments" link below to get a comment window and share your scientific thoughts, ideas and links so everyone can enjoy!

Again, this is not an assignment, just an opportunity for us to be a community and share some cool stuff along the way!  Have a great week!

Some cool stuff!!!

http://www.periodicvideos.com/
This site (linked above) is a really cool site put together by the University of Nottingham in the UK.  The sites homepage (pictured above) is a periodic table of the elements with links for each of the elements leading to videos explaining the properties of each of them.  Make sure you click on Mg as it has some cool properties and watch the water boiling video on Everest linked to on the home page, very cool!

More to come:)!

Welcome to Mr. Andrews Blog- First blog of the year

Hi,

You made it!  This is our class blog site!  I am a big believer that reflection is a huge part of learning.  I use blogging to help my students process their understandings and reflect on what they are learning.  My hope is that you will have fun with this forum.

You will periodically be asked to blog about something specific, or about your current understandings about what we are doing in class.  There are several things that you need to be aware of when blogging on this forum.

First of all, this is an educational blog, treat it like it is! Spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc... count! This is not a discussion between you and your friends on your cell phone, this is for school!  Use spell correct every time and do not use "text speak" when writing on this blog!

Second, everything you write can be seen by others in the class.  Be respectful, polite, watch what you say and be supportive of one another!  Remember, your words are a reflection of you!

Third, effort is important!  When I ask you to write a reflection that means be thorough!  You are in 7th grade I expect that your responses will be of 7th grade caliber!  Complete sentences, paragraph form, punctuation, and effort in your responses!  When I ask for a reflection, that is more than just a few sentences!

Lastly, this is a public forum, for your anonymity you are to use the same format for your name as is used by google docs in the format of "First name, last initial" anytime you use your name. Make sure you do not publish any identifying information or personal pictures of you or your friends.

This week you will simply be responding to this post by explaining what your favorite area of science is and why it is your favorite.  Please tell us what in particular you enjoy about that area of science and an example of that area of science in our daily lives.  To complete this assignment simply log in using your google docs password and then click on the "# comments" link on the bottom of the blog post, then write your response...

Once you are done you will click on "publish".

Your response should be 3-5+ sentences long! You will not immediately see your response as I need to OK it before it goes live so be patient,do not post multiple times!  Once you submit you are done!  Have fun blogging!

Mr. A
