Human Body Systems, Wrapping it all up!!!!

This week you will be wrapping up your unit over life and the human body and will be reflecting on two things.

First... Discuss how your understanding of what it means to be alive has changed over the last several weeks?  Think about Mrs. Gren, Body organization, and the individual systems we covered.

and Second...

How has your understanding of the human body changed since going to medical school? Explain.

Make sure to answer both questions for full credit on this blog.   You may work on this at any time this week, but it is due no later than midnight on Sunday December 22nd.  Don't forget to look at the upper right hand corner of this page to make sure that you are signed in before replying below and write your rough draft on another document (Google Doc) to make sure that you do not lose your work!

Have a great break!

  1. My understanding of living has changed so much over the past few weeks. At first, I thought that living was only supplied by the systems. However, it is a lot more than that. Until now, I never really knew the little details of each system. Such as why mucus was in our noses, and what the B-Cells and T-Cells do. I also never thought about how my body is working just as hard during the night as it does during the day. Each little Cell, and each little organ or part of each system works so hard just to provide for me to be a healthy human being.

My understanding of the Human Body has changed since going to medical school quite a bit. After the form and function sheets, I realized that every part of each system has a specific form which functions the way it does because it of its form, vice versa. Everything the body does, helps us live happy and healthy. This provides us with our genes when we are born to how my kids will look because of my genes I pass on to them. To wrap it up, everything has a form and function, which makes us happy and healthy.

  2. Having to understand the human body change was really amazing learning the different type of body systems like the skeletal, nervous system, and the digestive system. It is cool learning how they help us live and how they work with other organs.

  3. Over the past weeks my understanding of the human body has changed. At first I only knew a couple facts about every system. Now I know more than enough about the body and the organisms that live in it. MRS.GREN helped me understand the parts of a living or nonliving thing. Our body has many more living things than I thought we had. MRS.GREN stands for movement, respiration, sensitive, growth, reproduce, excretion, and nutrition. Some that is alive has to be able to do all of those 7 steps. In our body we do most of these things because the parts in the inside do it for us. I think that learning more about all the systems in the body helped me understand that most of the parts in us are living in a cellar level of course.
My understanding of the systems has changed since getting my masters degree in orthopedics a lot. I now know more about the muscles system and all the other systems than I ever did. Everyone went more in depth with the different systems making it easy to understand because they answered the questions we had when we were in 6th grade. Also I learned that every part of the body works hard to help us be active, strong, healthy, and happy. Plus every part of the body is important and has its own job. I think that understanding the body systems are important too because we need to know how we can do all these amazing things how its done. - Ellie D.

  4. Well hopefully you have a good winter break too.The cells are really important because we need it to survive, if we didn’t have cells how would we survive. Cells are the smallest unit of life that can replicate independently, and are often called the building blocks of life.

  5. FIRST:
By studying all of these things I have learned a ton about the human body. My definition of what it means to be alive has changed immensely. One of the things that gave me my new definition is the MRS.GREN idea. After I learned it I understood a formal definition of life and not just something off of the top of my head. After learning all of the individual body systems I understood what it took to be alive. I also understood that to be alive you can not just be pieces of skin and organs. You have to have systems to pull all of these things together. My system, the immune system taught me that sometimes things that may not seem important to be alive help you be alive. Now I know that without it you wouldn't be able to move or do the movement part of MRS. GREN.I know many more things about life after science class.

    SECOND:

My understanding of the human body has changed a lot since we went to medical school. The medical school helped me understand many things in a different way. By doing it like a school you got to learn things that you would have not learned by just taking notes. Before I started medical school I did not have much knowledge about the human body. I did know a little about the organs but I was not sure about how everything worked together to get things done. Now I know many things about each of the individual systems and what they do. I also know about how illnesses can affect the body and what the symptoms of them are. In real life I now know what is happening inside of my body. Medical school definitely changed my understanding of the body in many ways.

  6. My understanding of the human body has severely changed over the course of this and last month. I’ve learned many different and new things about every system including the immune, which I was not very familiar with. I didn’t know that when a virus enters the body, it is tagged with a little thing called the antibody. My understanding of the human body has changed since medical school because I got to learn about some pretty fascinating systems that I barely knew about. I got to study the skeletal system, and I thought that was really cool because when I go to college, I want to get a degree in orthopedics so I can become an orthopedic surgeon. Learning about the body is my new favorite subject in science, aside from learning about dinosaurs! I hope that we get to learn even more after this unit.

Question 1: Discuss how your understanding of what it means to be alive has changed over the last several weeks? Think about Mrs.Gren, Body organization, and the individual systems we covered.
Well, I can answer this question for you. I have never really looked into being alive. I thought is was just one gift from god or something like that. That is true but it also a bunch of systems working together to be able work and find what is around you and how to react. All the systems work as one big “team” to keep you alive and keep you working. All of the systems are located to where they are for reason. For example, the heart, it is located in the middle of the body for it to be able to pump blood from the heart to the body and then get some blood back to continue the cycle.

Question 2: How has your understanding of the human body changed since going to medical school? Explain.
My specialty in medical school was immunology or the immune system. When I entered medical school I had no clue about or what the immune system was and now I am a doctor in that study. I liked the human body a lot and thought it was really cool how what you are learning is going on inside your body right now. I have always been fascinated by that and think that is really cool. I thought your body was made up off a bunch of systems doing their own individual work to keep you going but once again, I was proven wrong. All the systems work as a team and my understanding of the human body has completely changed since entering medical school.

  8. IT means to be alive and it changes thou out the last weeks by the body systems are amazing like hair is not alive, nervous system needs to go fast so we now what we do with our body,The immune system has a battle going on every second. My understanding of the body since medical school has grown alot!

  9. Geez, after all of the study on the human body, I find the fact that I’m alive way more complex than before. Especially after the complexities of all the systems. First, There’s Mrs.Gren, and all of those things have to happen in order for me to be alive. Now this is how then happen. Movement, First nutrients have to come from the blood (circulatory) to the bones and muscles (muscular and skeletal) and then the muscles have to pull and release the bones to move. Then respiration, The muscular system has to push the diaphragm to make you inhale and exhale with your respiratory system. Then sensitivity, there is your skin (intergummery) and your nerves connecting to it (nervous) and it has to go up your spinal cord (skeletal) and into your brain then back.

And don’t even get me started on how much my view on the human body has changed. Especially after watching those pushing the limits videos, I see the body as a complex machine, and how it can achieve incredible feats. But the most fascinating thing that I found about it was that we only achieve ⅓ of all our brain’s potential, and look what can happen when we do. People and their bodies can do amazing things, and this lesson will go with me forever.

  10. After our unit on the human body I have learned so many things that I never knew about. After learning about MRS.GREN the meaning about being alive has changed. I always thought that being alive was being able to breathe. That is not the case anymore. To be living you needed to be able to move, resperate, be sensitive, grow, reproduce, execrate, and be able to take in nutrients. I also thought that some types of cells didn’t matter for me to be able to live but if you lose one specific group of cell in your body you can die.

I also now understand the body much better than I used to. I had always heard of all of the different systems but didn’t know what they all did. For example, I didn’t know anything about the Integumentary system before and now I know that there are three layers of skin. I got to study the Immune system and I know so much more about how our body fights antigens. While studying the Immune system I noticed that not all body systems have organs do all of the work. The main parts of the Immune system that attacks invaders are the T-Cells, B-Cells, and Macrophages. If we would have never done medical school my knowledge of the human body would be very limited.

  13. Being alive means that you can do all of Mrs. Gren. You have to be able to move in some way whether its blinking or just being able to move constantly. You also have to be able to reproduce. Some people can't have children and that doesn't mean they're not alive because their cells can still reproduce. You have to also be able to be sensitive to your surroundings. Which means react to the things around you. You also have to be able to grow. An example would be grow in height. You also have to be able to breath... Duh. You cant live without being able to get air into your lungs and breathe. You also have to be able excrete which means be able to get rid of waste. And lastly you have to be able to have nutrition go in to your body.

My understandings of the body have changed a lot ! I learned so many new things like about the muscles in your body and how they work together. I also learned a lot about the digestive and nervous system. I learned how the digestive system looks and the cycle your food goes through and i learned about how you get signals to your brain. I am glad that I learned so many new things about the body because I love science class. Science is my favorite class and being a doctor seems interesting and i can definitely see it in my future.

  14. My understanding of what life has went from complicated, to even MORE complicated. At first I thought that being alive was just no big deal, but now that I know all of the body systems pretty good, I realized that being alive is very important in the survival of our species. Our body is pretty complex, and confusing, and I had a very fun time lear

  15. Ning about it. for the second topic, I think that medical school changed my perspective of the human body greatly. It has changed, I understand a lot of stuff that I've never understood before.

  16. After graduating Medical School, I have a much broader understanding of the human body. We learned about the body systems in fifth grade, but definitely not in as much depth as we did this year. I had also never knew about MRS. GREN and the seven systems of life in this much detail either. Throughout the course of medical school with all of the pushing the limits videos, labs, dissections, presentations, and etc. I have truly learned how extraordinary the human body really is.
Next, my understanding of the human body has widened dramatically since fifth grade. Back then, I was “understanding” the concept of all the systems, but I couldn’t fully understand them until I dissected the eye and the lamb pluck. After all of these weeks covering the human body, I know completely understand every system, and that was before dissecting. In conclusion, these few weeks have changed my perspective, and broadened my knowledge on the human body.

  17. The meaning to be alive is to Mrs. Gren. You Need to be able to move, such as run and jump. Next you need to be able to respiration so you need to be able to breath. Now sensitivity you need to know your surroundings and be able to feel things. Growth , you need to be able to grow and get bigger. Reproduction is the ability to repopulate, if you could not repopulate the species would die off. Excretion is the ability to get rid of waste in the body. Nutrition is the ability to turn glucose in to energy. If you can do these 7 life process then you are surely alive.

My understanding of the human body has changed severely from medical school. Just this week my understanding of the body has gotten better by the dissections of the heart and eye. I know more about both.

  18. After learning all about the human body I feel different about my self and being alive. I learned how complex and how interesting our body is. I was trying to figure out how every thing fits into our body. It seems like that is impossible to accomplish.
After going through medical school, I learned that the human body is a fascinating thing. Learning that there is 86 billion neurons in the human brain to learning about the heart and its cardiac powers. I started to learn and interpret the human body in a hole different way after this unit.

Before what i thought to be alive was just being able to breath. I now see that I need:
    Movment
    Respiration
    Sensitvity

    Growth
    Reproduction
    Excretion
    Nutrience

Mrs. Gren has really shown me that there are alot more things that allow me to live and what they are. Many of the systems go with Mrs. Gren. For instance muscular and strength for movement. That is how learning Mrs. Gren changed how i think about my body work and the things it does to keep me alive.

  20. Over the last couple weeks we have learned about the different body systems. I understand what it means to be alive. Its not just the body systems that do a certain process its the little things that make up the systems. Also, they have to follow the rule of Mrs. Gren. Everything that you do is because of what makes up that system. Your fast reflections have helped your body in so many ways and over the last couple weeks, I finally understand that. I also understand that in order to survive you need ALL of your body systems and everything that makes the process happen. My understanding has changed since medical in many ways. First, I understand I now know all of the body system. Before going to medical school I didn't know what the integumentary was and now I know everything about it. Also, I didn't know what any major organs besides a few did or what they were. By going to medical school I have increased my knowledge. As you can see, I have learned so much about the different body systems.

To be honest i cant really look into the mirror the same way anymore. But i really enjoyed learning about the human body. I was able to learn about the Circulatory system more into depth. I really enjoyed that system because of the veins and arteries amaze me. The other systems were nice to learn about also. Now i really enjoy having discections more than i did in 5th grade. That is what i think of feel about the human body after Medical School.

  22. The main purpose of humans being alive is called Mrs.Gren. Mrs.Gren is a process of life where we all connect to keep the body and\or human race going. One example is reproduction this allows us to keep the human race in running order and keep our family history alive.

My understanding of the human body has changed a lot based on the fact that before I didn't know very much but now I do like the integumentary systems main organs are the skin, hair, and nails. And this is only one of the things I have learned in the medical school.

  23. Now that I am a “doctor” I think of what it means to be alive a lot differently in several ways. To begin with I think of the life in a whole different way, rather than the human body just doing things to survive, when ever I eat food I think about each of the cells getting energy from the mitochondria and the golgi body, where it is shipped around the cell so each thing can get its food. Another way is I now realise the pure scale of the human body, from the cells, to the fibers, to the muscles and bones. All of them are made on a extremely small scale. To answer the second question, I think of the human body differently because I can now focus on something in my body, and I can think about what system is working to allow me to live. Also, after becoming a “doctor” I now think of the human body as one big factory working together, rather than it having its own separate machines doing seperate jobs. I’m glad I got to learn about the human body, because it changed the way I think about life, and the way I think about the human body.

  24. My understanding of what it means to be alive has evolved throughout the past few weeks; I learned that every single being that lives moves, respires, senses, grows, reproduces, excretes, and collects nutrients (MRS. GREN). The human body consists of many different systems directed towards these tasks. For example, the Muscular System performs the task of moving our Skeletal System. Also, to be alive, the organs and systems in your body must work together.

  25. My understanding of what being alive means has definitely changed over the past few weeks. At first, I thought that all you had to do to be alive was to have a pulse, but now I know that isn't all of it. Mrs. Gren plays a big role in being alive. To be alive, means you have to move, resperate (breathe), be sensitive, grow, reproduce, excrete, and have to be able to get nutrition. The systems of the body play a big role for humans too. You have to have all of the systems (circulatory, respiratory, integumentary, etc). My understanding of the human body system has also changed. I didnt know that the systems have so much too it. At first, I knew that the circulatory had to do with the movement of blood, the immune system was your nose and how you get sick, and I didn't even know what the integumentary system was. Now I know that every system has its own parts and functions.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I used to think that the body was simple. Boy was I wrong, after learning about Mrs.Gren and all the other body presentations everyone did I realized how stunningly complex the human body is. To be alive is to be able to function of have a niche while doing all the parts of Mrs.Gren, I thought being alive was just being able to move and complete tasks.
I have also changed greatly in my understanding of the human body I now know that there are much more systems than I would have thought and also how those bodily systems work. My understanding has mostly changed about the digestive system as that is what I studied, I learned that the acids in your body are only held in by a type of mucus-ey substance.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Overall, my understanding of what it means to be alive has changed very much over the last couple of weeks. First off, to be alive you must do all of the life processes of MRS. GREN. This means that your body must move, respirate, be sensitive, grow, reproduce, excrete and obtain nutrients. Your body also must be made up of different functioning body systems. For example, your Circulatory System is important for obtaining oxygen into the bloodstream and taking it to all other parts of the body. The Digestive, Respiratory, Skeletal/Muscular, Integumentary, and Nervous Systems are all needed for you to be alive. To truly be alive, your body must have many different complex systems and must do the life processes of MRS. GREN.
After going to medical school, my understanding of the human body has really changed. I have learned more about how complex the body is and how all of the systems work together.I have also learned how each system does the process of MRS. GREN. I did not know how all of the different systems work together to make up our body. Another thing that I learned is how so much can go wrong because of its complexity. We studied many different diseases and learned the importance of each system. I never really understood that all of the systems had to be functioning together to make something truly alive. Our body is complex and has many different systems to make it be alive.

  28. Before I ever knew about the body systems or Mrs. Gren, I just thought that there were blood in us, muscles, and bones in us. I just knew the main stuff. I didn’t even know about body systems, and Mrs. Gren. But know that I learned about I understand it a lot. If you’re alive then that means that your body systems in your body are working correctly to keep the body alive and healthy, and your are doing Mrs. Gren ( Movement, Respiratory, Sensitivity, Growth, reproduction, excretion, and nutrition.) Ever since I have been going to medical school, my understanding of all of this has changed a lot. I used think that we were just living without any systems in us. I knew nothing about any systems. But after I learned about all the systems, I learned that we probably wouldn’t be able to live without all the systems. If we took away one of the systems, that would effect our body terrible, or we would probably die.

  29. My understanding of the human body system has changed ever since if found out about the seven characteristics of life. Now I know that even if you are missing one you are considered dead or non living. Since I went to medical school I have a new found understanding of the nervous system. I also have a new understanding of the other systems. I already had a good idea but now it even better.

  30. Over the past few weeks I have learned how the body works and different systems help keep us alive. Without the systems in our body and without we would die. There is technology out there that helps keep us alive. Even the most advanced technology does not work as well as our body can.

I have learned how every system works together. Without them working together we could get very sick and possibly die. I learned the most about the Integumentary System. I learned that our skin is a very important part of our body. It provides protection to our internal organs and without it we would just be bones.

  32. My understanding of being alive has changed drastically from anything that moves to anything that Moves, Respirates, has Sensitivity, Grows, Reproduces,Excretes, and gets Nutrition is living this means anything that does MRS. GREN. My understanding of the human body has also changed at first I just thought you ate to get energy and breathed to get air and your heart gave you blood. But now I know that there are a lot more to it there are organs that help you do these things and your brain makes you do things even if you aren’t consciously saying to and how many little pieces there are that counts.

  33. The experience that I learned this week is there is a lot of organs and bones in your body and when your a baby you have 2 or 3 hundred bones in you body and my with medical school was great I had fun with learning about the body system and how it works I also learned that all the systems are important like the skeletal system without the skeletal system we would look fat and would not be alive.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Over the last few weeks, I have learned that all of the systems of the body contribute to us staying alive. What it means to stay alive is being able to have the 7 key necessities. These 7 key necessities are Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, and Nutrition. This is also called Mrs. Gren which are things that consider us to be alive. Without out any of these important things, along with the multiple systems, we could not survive and thus wouldn't be considered alive.
My knowledge on the human body has changed dramatically. This is because by learning all about the systems and having to present our own system in front of the class, really increased my understanding about all of the systems. To add, by doing the sheet for each of the systems, this really made me understand what each of the systems functions were. Therefore, going to Medical School really enhanced my learning on what each of the systems were and their functions.

  35. In understood that to be alive you have to have Mrs.green and your body systems. I remember that we were supposed to argue about which system was not needed. Well the final conclusion was that you have to have all of them. I have learned a lot of new medical stuff. I also learned that you can tell by a few notes what the patient would have. I think that was cool because we did not do any real exames of the patients

  36. My understanding of what it means to be alive has changed tremendously. I learned to be alive you need to have all of MRS.GREN. I also learned some things in MRS.GREN aren't always the obvious. For example movement doesn't have to be walking it can be moving your eyes. Or with reproduction, it doesn't always mean having offspring your cells can reproduce. All systems work together too.

My understanding of the human body since “medical school” has made me think of how amazing our bodies are and why they do the things they do. Again I learned that if one system doesn't work properly than our bodies will not function properly. Also I just learned more in each system that we studied.

  38. Human Body Systems, Wrapping it all up!!!!

Over the last several weeks I have learned many things. One of the things is what it means to be alive. When we first started our unit on the human body, I didn’t know what any of the body systems meant and I just thought that if you're breathing, you’re alive, no matter what condition you are in. Now that we have done and learned all the systems I know that your body has many jobs and symptoms. I learned that there are many layers of skin, not just one. I learned that your nerves carry pain and sensation to your brain. And Much More! Now i know what it means to be alive.

Before going to medical school I didn’t know how your body really functioned. I didn't know that their were so many symptoms, cells, and how many jobs they all had! Also I didn’t know what Mrs.Gren was! Now I know all of the letters and what they mean. While going through medical school I learned a lot about the human body.

  39. My understanding of being alive has changed over the past couple of weeks in several ways. First of all, when we started this unit, I had no idea what it truly meant to be alive, but then I learned about MRS. GREN and learned that if you can even do one letter in MRS. GREN, then you’re not alive. I used to think that if your heart was beating, then you’re alive, but I now know that I was very wrong. I never understood why we had to have all of these different body systems, but over the past several weeks, I learned that we need each and every one of these systems, and without them, we would die. Without the digestive system, we wouldn’t be able to obtain nutrients. Without the immune system, we would get sick very often and a common cold would probably kill us. Without the respiratory system, we wouldn’t be able to give the cells in our body oxygen. My understanding of the human body has changed since medical school because in medical school I learned how each and every system works in order to keep us alive. I learned the purpose of each system, the parts of each system, and how they work. Medical school taught me that the human body is a very complex organ that is also simple in some ways. I know truly know how the body works and what it means to be alive.

  40. Over the last few weeks, my view on what it means to be alive has changed. I used to not really know or have a concept of what it was to be alive. Now, I have thought it through, and I know that, in my opinion, being alive means to reproduce. To keep that species going. If we didn't keep the species going, what would be the point? We need to help the young grow, and then our purpose is done.
My understanding on the human body used to be simple. I used to think that it was just a bunch of organs doing their thing. And while it is like that in a way, it is much more complicated. It's a bunch of organs working together, even on a molecular level, to make sure you stay alive.

  41. Personally, I loved this unit in science. This is because I thought it was really interesting to learn about our body and how we stay alive. My understanding of what it means to be alive has also changed a lot. I used to not really think about how we stay alive and was just glad that I am alive. Now, pretty much everyday, I think about how all of my body systems are always on duty, like how my heart beats nonstop all day, or how my immune system is always fighting off bacteria and viruses. Also, I think about MRS. GREN because if we didn’t have one of the “letters” in MRS. GREN, then we wouldn’t be alive.
Ever since “medical school”, my understanding of the body has also changed a lot. This is because, if possible, I learned even more about the body. My system was the digestive system and I learned a lot of diseases that go along with this system. I also learned some diseases that go along with the other systems. What really brought my understandings of the diseases up was when some “sick” people came in and we had to diagnose them with a disease. This helped because it really felt like I was actually diagnosing a real patient and it was fun!

  42. Through out these last several weeks I learned a lot about what it means to be alive and my understanding about how the body works. For a person to stay a live they need all the body systems. Such as the digestive- to get rid or waste, and circulatory- for pumping blood through out to body to give cells nutrition. Everything needs to supply the body with nutrition and help protect the body. MRS. GREN also is needed to keep the body and human race keep going. M is movement, R is respire, S is sensitivity, G is growth, E excretion, and N is nutrition. They are all needed to live. Some examples are without reproduction our cells wouldn't be able to reproduce and humans would go extinct. My understanding of the body systems and body changed a lot. Every time my case mates would do a presentation I would know something new. Before we started to learn about the body I was clueless about a lot of things. Through out the few weeks that we learned about the body I learned about what it means so live and my understanding enlarged.

  43. I have been very impressed with how many systems the human body needs, so that it can funtion correctly! all the way uo until fifth grade, I always thought that the human body had just a few parts to it. I knew there was a big tube, called the throat, but I didn't know that the throat later seperated into two tubes that went their opposite ways. I thought that the stumach was just a big pit full of old gooey slim, that was once a yummy meal. I didm't know of all the other parts and systems that occured to the human body. The things that keep humans, humans, and animals, animals. Now I understand all the systems, and the major organs within those systems, of the human body! I have also learned about MRS.GREN and it has definatly helped me understand what makes an organism living, nonliving, and dead. MRS.GREN has helped me become a better Immunalogist, and has helped me understand a patient's illnesses better!
Another thing that has helped me understand the meaning of the human bodywas when I went to medical school! Again, I didn't know that the human body had so many systems, and that all the systems have to rely on each other, or else the human body system would collapse. I am happy that I went to Med school so that I could understand the meaningd of each system, and all the other organs that belong to that system, and help the human body do it's job! I also got to dissect a heart, which helped me understand more about the out and inside of it than a diagram would have!

I think this has been a very good experience, and now if someone every asks me about the human body I wouldn't even know where to start! I hope that I can continue learning about doctering, because I hae found that I have a slight interest in doing it for a living. All and all I believe that the human body system system has been a good experience!

  44. To live we all have to follow special requirements. One of them is Mrs. Gren. M stands for movement, r stands for respiratory, g is for growth, r is for reproduction, e is for excretion, and n is for nutrition. Without one or the other we would die. Another thing we need to live is the body systems. They are skeletal, integumentary, muscular, circulatory, nervous, immune, respiratory, digestive, excretory, and reproductive. Without this, we would not be able to do many things like getting energy, moving, getting protection, keeping shape, breathing, and beating are heart. As you can see these systems are very important.

Now thanks to the medical school I know how complex are bodies are and how we use them. I also now know how the bodies work. These last weeks helped a lot.

  45. My view on being alive has been tremendously 'affected'. Our bodies do millions of actions at once; even when just taking a breath in. Our bones move at the slightest Movement, we Grow when we work out or get older, just so much happens. Our cells multiply, Reproducing and humans Reproduce. Our bodies can do all this and MORE.
Medical school really opened my eyes due to the fact that body can be affected by so many illnesses. And also that the body has systems that all have to work together to be able to function. Without at least one of the systems, the human body wouldn't be able to 'properly' work. By this I mean, our bodies could get sick easier, we could be jello (skeletal), and even more! Its scary to know that, so its a good thing I learned about it this year!

  46. This past weeks we’ve been learning about the human body systems. And now I know way more than I used to know. Mrs. Gren connects with the body systems by helping us stay alive because when we were learning about is Sammy alive it said that we need all the life processes to stay alive well most of them. So Mrs. Gren helps all of our body systems. I learned about a lot of body systems and all the systems are respiratory system, circulatory system, immune system, integumentary system, digestive system, and ects. While i was in medical school I learned about a lot of diseases and diagnoses. We actually had “real” patients come in and tell us what was wrong with them and are clinic had to find out what was wrong with her/him and it was really fun. It helps us learn by thinking in a real life senairel. Thats how everything went with learning about the systems.

During the past several weeks my understanding of what it means to be alive has changed dramatically. I never thought about Mrs. Gren, body organization, and the individual systems. Before learning about these things I thought being alive only meant that the body breathing and the heart was pumping. I was wrong because this is only one of the seven parts of Mrs. Gren (movement, respiration, sensitivity, growth, reproduction, excretion, and nutrition). Also never knew that the different systems work together to keep the body alive.
Additionally, my understanding of the human body has changed dramatically. The body systems work together in many different ways to keep the body alive. There are so many parts of the body from the heart to the microscopic cells that make up the body. The human body is a remarkable addition to science and still today scientist still wonder about the many parts of the system (being alive, and the systems).

Learning of the body with Mrs.Gren remind how to take care of myself and what could happen if I don't take care of my body. Also it has made more aware of how the body should work and if that is not working I should probably take a visit with the doctor.

  49. My understanding of Mrs.Gren and what it means to be alive has changed over a few weeks because we have gone deeper into each system works and each piece of it which makes it all work as one. For example movement. Muscles have to relax and contract for your arm leg ect. to move. The two parts have a job that makes the system work, which is movement. We also learned that our heart is constantly beating and our muscles are constantly working for us to do basically everything. We also learned about how the reproduction system is constantly working. With everything that is constantly working and blood pumping through our body being oxygenated from respiration, we are definitely living. I know that if those were not working you would be dead because you wouldn’t be able to breathe, move and your heart wouldn’t work.

My understanding of the human body has changed since this week. Somethings we learned were things I have wanted to learn, and some not so much. But I did learn how all of the body systems work (Respiratory system, muscular system, reproductive system ect.) and how they help the body work! I think the body is amazing, and that there are a lot more things that scientist have not found out about the body!

  50. After medical school my system was the skeletal system. I learned more about the skeletal system and how bones support our body. I also learned more about other systems. Skeletal system obliviously supports your body so you will be able to move I think walking and being able to move is still being able to live because with MRS. GREN movement is one of the systems. But I knew that the muscular and the skeletal system worked together and after the muscular system did there presentation I understand more on how they work together to keep the body moving.I enjoyed learning more about other system.

  51. My understanding of being alive has changed a lot actually. I realized the body is a very complex thing that had many jobs. There are 8 or 9 systems that I of. Each of these have a specific job they are in charge of. We obviously do all 7 of the life processes which makes us a living thing. I'm so glad that I learned more about the human body. Also my understanding of the human body has changed a lot since going to medical school. Doing presentations made me learn so many new things, especially when we were researching things for it. I thought that was a great way to learn about the human body systems. Doing it our selves was the best way to learn I think and listening to other students. The human body was my favorite thing to learn about!

  52. Dear Mr. Andrews,

I learned that to be alive you need 7 elements of life, otherwise known as MRS GREN. M represent movement like walking. R represent respiration like breathing. S represent sensitivity, for example hearing. G represent growth, an example is your height. R stands for reproduction, on example is to build cells. E stands for excretion, which is going to the bathroom. Finally N represent nutrients, eating food.

My understanding of the human body changed since going to fake medical school. For example studying something without real experience is different than doing the real thing. Next, you will never know if you are good if you stay in a room studying. Lastly, studying something for a long time, doesn’t mean you are ready, you might throw up at the sight at blood.

Thank you for reading this comment and have a good night.

    From your student,

    Randy C.

  53. Over this quarter and semester, I have learned a ton about body systems and what it means to be alive. At first, I thought being alive just meant that you could breathe, eat, and think. But I learned that it takes a lot more than that to be considered alive. For example, I didn't know that all things had to move to stay alive. I was confused because I thought that plants really didn't move except for on the inside, but I learned that they face towards the sun to get sunlight. I also learned that how our bodies and other animals bodies are wired are extremely important to survival. It is so amazing to think that all of our systems have to be linked together in order to have our body to function how we do. I originally thought that each system did its own thing and never interacted, but I was wrong. I learned that it's very vital that they work together. That brings me to medical school. My understanding of the human body has changed so much. In 5th grade we went over the systems, but there's a lot more to them than what I originally thought. For example, I thought that the muscular system just helped us move around and get things done. After researching and doing a presentation on it, I've learned that there are three different muscles that do three different things. The visceral muscle moves blood and food, the cardiac muscle helps the heart beat, and the skeletal muscle moves our entire body. In conclusion, my knowledge of the body systems and how we can survive has changed dramatically and I am really looking forward to learning even more about it as I continue learning.

  54. As we went further in depth into the human body systems, I learned a lot about the body and living things: all living things must move, respire, sense, grow, reproduce, excrete, and obtain nutrition. I also learned how body systems interact and help each other to get their jobs done. For example, the marrow in bones makes white blood cells that the immune system uses. So, without the skeletal system, the immune system would not function properly.
I think the “Medical School” helped me to understand the body better because it was more interactive. The fact that we got to teach the class and research our information helped to solidify the information better than just taking notes. I liked how we got more in depth and also studied the immune system, which we didn’t get to in elementary school.

  55. I thought that our bodies just did things to help us breath, eat, and exercise to help keep us healthy , and alive. But I know that our body systems have do a lot of work to keep us alive and healthy. If we didn't have our immune system we would always be sick and could catch very dangerous virus.I thought that human body had many systems that helped keep us alive.I didn't know how much work the body systems had to do to keep us healthy. After the past few weeks I learned how much work our bosy systems do to keep us healthy and alive. If any one of the body systems stopped working it could be very difficult for humans to stay healthy and alive.

  57. Over the last month, I have expanded on my learning as a doctor. I remember in fifth grade we studied the human body, this was much different. We went deeper and learned Mrs.Gren, the traits you need to be classified as alive. Additionally, we learned about specific systems in medical school. We got to be experts in one system, and we took notes on the other system as our fellow doctors presented. I now have a much deeper understanding, am glad that I got this experience.

  58. My understanding of what it means to be alive has changed greatly over the last several weeks because I have learned about the different body systems that help us stay alive. Just like every cell your body can/could not live if one of the systems were taken out of the body the body wouldn't be able to work properly so the body would end dyeing. This would happen because if your body didn't have your circulatory system you would die because your body wouldn't be able to send oxygenated blood to the body causing you to suffocate. This is the same for the other systems but it would affect you a different way for each system. MRS. GREN helped me learn more about how each system does the seven life processes. For example the respiratory it demonstrates the seven life processes by M) having the diaphragm move to pull in oxygen and push out carbon dioxide; R) it respirates by bring in oxygen into to air sacks of the lungs and letting out the carbon dioxide; S) the lungs are very sensitive to air that is to cold that causes a stinging sensation in the lungs; G) your lungs will grow with you as your body grows; R) the lungs do reproduction by reproducing the cells; E) the respiratory system will excrete the carbon dioxide that you let out of your system when breathing out; N) your lungs need nutrition from the food you eat but they also get nutrition from the air you breathe.
My understanding of the human body has changed greatly since going to medical school. First of all I used to think that only some of the body systems worked together and not all of them worked together. For example before going to medical school I thought that the digestive system didn't work with any of the other systems in the body. I also thought that the immune system only involved your nose and not the entire body. I didn't really know how the immune system worked I only thought that it some how magically got rid of the illness. After studying the immune system and becoming an immunologist I was able to learn that to get rid of an infection your body/immune system sends out B-Cells to locate the infection, T-Cells to hold of the infection and Macrophages to eat and dispose of the infection. Overall in this unit I have learned a lot more things about all of the systems and what it means to be alive.

1.The meaning of what it means to be alive has changed for me in the past several weeks in a few different ways. What I used to think meant that you were living meant that you could move and function. In reality what it means to be alive means to be able to do all of MRS.GREN, Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, and you have to be able to obtain Nutrition.
    2. My understanding of the human body has changed as well, to begin with I used to think that the body was just something that did many function. In truth, there are several different systems that work together and function as one.

  60. Over this whole subject I have expanded my learning about being alive because I have learned what my body needs. Since I have learned about whats inside of me and what happens in there I learned that I need to eat better to keep my insides doing a great job. I also need to be careful because I have learned that my inside are very fragile and if they get hurt its serious. I learned some good things about the brain and that it helps you stay alive. I learned that you need to be moving, respiring, be sensitive, grown, reproduce, and excrete to be alive. You also need to do all of these things so your body gets nutrition. These are the things I have learned about the human body.
