Blog for week of 2/24 - 2/28

Follow the directions on "how to blog" and the "rules for blogging" on the right to answer this prompt:

Right now Colorado has weather of all sorts, hot, cold, snow, rain.    However many scientists predict that our climate will become warmer and drier in the futures.  Think of the plants and animals that live in Colorado now.

1.  Pick one and explain how that plant or animal might have to evolve in order to continue to live successfully in a drier, warmer environment.

        OR

2.  Explain how one plant or animal that lives in Colorado now will continue to be successful.   Include what adaptations they have that allow them to survive in a dry, warm place.

Make sure your answer is  AT LEAST SIX SENTENCES

Finally, type your first name and last initial at the end of your answer.

  1. In Colorado we have Deer and Elk. I believe that they will continue to be successful, because if their adaptions. and Deer Elk have horns, to help fight and defend themselves. Their fur helps them stay warm in the winter and cold in the summer. Also their fur helps them blend into the environment (camouflage.) They're already successful in the wild. In the future I believe they'll stay the same.

  2. Mountain lion would be able to adapt to the climates because it would have to get harder feet so the heat will not be able to hurt him. The Mountain lion would need hard feet also so it can walk on things like rocks and gravel. The Lion would also need to run fast to catch its prey. Also the loin would need to do things like puff up its fur to get away from heat like how birds do. The lion might lose some fur to get away from heat also. It will also Have to keep making new life so the can adapt better.

  3. The animal that choose is the wild bunny rabbit to explain how it could evolve to help it stay cool. I know that the bunny has a fur coat so one evolution that the bunny could have to survive in the new environment is having less fur. This could thess help the bunny cool down and now die of overheating. Also this animal could grow bigger ears because the bunny’s ears could help it release hot air and get “ ear conditioning”. Last is how they could somehow need less water knowing that when it gets hotter and drier there won’t be much water around. These are just some of the evolving this animal could do to help it adapt to the new environment. - Ellie D.

  4. Colorado is a very pretty place, I know this because, I live here, and because of my trip to outdoor ed last year. I learned a lot on the trip, but something stuck with me, the way Aspen Trees work together. Aspens sprout out of the ground, and appear as many, but all of the roots are entwined. This means that when one gets sick, the other trees disconnect to that one, or that when one has too little water, the other trees share some of theirs. This is why I think Aspens will do so well if it gets hot and dry in Colorado. Obviously they are going to need some water to keep going...but they work together really well, and I think that they could survive in some pretty harsh climates and conditions by working together.

  5. Sence Colorado might get warmer and drier climate in the future, some animals have to evolve in order so keep living successfully in the new climate. But some animals can survive in warmer weather. For example Squirrels, they will be able to find more food. They won't have to search as much for nuts as before. Also they will be able to play as much as before. Squirrels will be able to hide nuts in dirt better and be able to keep track of them. That's why squirrels can survive in warmer weather. 6. Elk would half to mostly change their fur. They might also have to change their diet. The weather is getting warmer, so their fur would have to be thinner. They need camouflage. Their fur should be more almost bark-ish. As the weather gets hotter and dryer there will be less plants so they would have to eat something that grows in the hotter-dryer climate.

  7. A Russian sage, or Perovskia, is like cactus, agave, aloe, yucca and prickly pear, because they are growing in the desert, and can survive draught conditions. Perovskia can also survive because its roots dig deep into the ground to get water, and most plants need to be watered, their roots don't go as deep as the Russian sage's do. Perovskia's are found in central Asia in an area that includes Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, and Tibet. they can survive!

  8. One plant that has to make adaptations to the warm Colorado is the cactus. This plant has to make many adaptations , such as conserving water. The cactus expands and sucks in the water in able to survive in these warm temperatures. The cactus can conserve the water for a long period of time. The cactus can also adjust quickly from precipitation to soak that water into it and need what the cactus does in order to survive. This is because of the thorns on the outside that keep the predators away from the water of the cactus. They are able to trap water inside of the stems of the plant in order to store the water. I think that the cactus has made this adaptation to be able to store water in which really helps them survive in the warmer days of Colorado.

  9. If the weather got warmer and dryer, I think a cactus might do the best in it. A cactus adaptation is that they can soak up water and keep it in them for a long time. They might need to work a little harder, but I still think they would do good. Cacti also use photosynthesis to keep water in them. Cacti have skin that is poky to keep predators away. They also have a stem to have shade so they don't get dehydrated. I think cacti is a good plant that would live in warm, dry weather.

  10. The weather in Colorado is normal not to hot and not to cold. But if the weather might change in Colorado from normal to drier and hotter then the animals and the plants will not be able to survive because the plants and animals wont be able to get enough water and for the animals it will be harder to get their prey. They way they will be able to survive is for them to evolve and change and have different features like something that will protect them from the sun. Nailea A.

  11. One plant that lives here in Colorado is the cactus. Cactuses are very cool plants and have great defense from predators. One adaptation that they have to help them survive in dry weather is their water storage. Cactuses are hollow and as they suck up rainfall that has fallen, it stores it inside it's body. They then slowly use that supplies as they need it. This is why you see many cactuses in dry desserts. They're only a couple of plants that do not need to take in much water. They make great house plants! In addition, their spikes act as defense from animals and they also reduce water loss by constricting air flow near the cactus. Lastly, they have long, thick roots which soak up moisture after a big rainfall. Once the cacti is filled, their roots break off so that there is less plant to feed and so that water loss won't happen. Cacti are very fascinating plants and would be great plants to continue to live in the dry environments of Colorado.

  12. 2. There are many plants and animals living in Colorado right now, the cold weather and all the climate changes effect them a lot. So what if all the climate and environment changed dramatic and fast. Well the animals would need to adapt to changes by evolution and reproduction. Overtime the animals would change colors and shape and even weight. It will continue to be successful for the animals because no matter how Colorado changes they will always change with there environment.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think the animal would not survive because if the animal get to much sun on them it would kill them and it's going to make there throat thirst and any other they eat would not taste good they would taste like dust. The plant would not survive because the sun just make it worst and it's going to make it dissolve. If you work your way backwards through the fossil record, for about 400 million years you would be working back through ages that included organisms living on land. From about 400 million years back to 600 million years, all kinds of complex multicellular life would have been confined to the waters of the earth

    ReplyDelete
  14. None of the above, because no plants or animals could survive on a warm and dry place. The reason why animals and plants can't survive then, they wouldn't get enough water they also need hydration to live. Now lets talk about plants. Plants could die by now, if it was dry then that, would effect our air then we could get affected. The plants could get dry so fast.Plants and animals could turn into fossils this could happen in Colorado.

  15. Colorado’s weather changes a lot. It can go from hot to blistering cold in a matter of one day. This means that the animals and plants have to evolve or adapt to live. Lets say rabbits. They mostly live in the cold because they have long coats that keep them warm. Since it has been very cold in colorado, a lot of rabbits have been around. But once it starts to get hot, they are going to have to adapt. Most likely they will shed their winter coats, so they aren't as hot. Rabbits aren't the only animals that would have to adapt. All animals do this at one point or another.

  16. If the weather is causing problems to the animals in Colorado like rain and strong winds destroying their homes it would be difficult to find or make a new home. Also cold wind, snow, and hot heat can kill the animals. if they don't have the right body temperature to handle the weather. For example a animal that has a fur can survive in the snow and not in the hot sun the animal will get sweaty. Then a animal that has skin not fur they survive in the hot heat will maybe with a little fur to. So if animals do have problems living in the Colorado because of the weather they might mutate for example animals that have just skin they might grow fur for the snow and for the fur animals they might lose fur to survive in the hot sun.

  17. I think that the eastern diamond back rattle snake will have to evolve in order to survive in the hot dry terrain. I also think that the diamondback will have to evolve from being able to live in cold weather. The diamondback needs to develop a different camouflage for the new environment. The diamondback can survive in a hot and dry environment but still needs to get use to not drinking for at least 1 day in the hot weather. The diamondback is indedunas to the cold and the heat but they are not use to no water and no shelter. They also have these vents in there nose that helps them keep cool and not over heat but they can’t stay cool with no water or food.

  18. The animals in Colorado are constantly evolving. The common mouse will have to lose more fur or it could overheat. It may also have to change its physical features in their mouths. Some plants that could survive in colder temperatures may not be around anymore. Mouses may have to eat plants that they don't commonly eat. The change in temperature can really affect a lot of organisms, we have evolution to keep us alive.

  19. With Colorado becoming drier and drier, any type of fish would have to be able to adapt to an already hot and dry environment. It would get even tougher if the climate became even drier. In the event of a severe drought drying up rivers, lakes, (where ever certain fish live), fish would need to be able to breathe above water, if it wants to survive. This may occur with natural selection, as every 1 in 1000 fish would be born with something different. 2 of those 2000 would have to mate and start another population of a new type of fish. These fish would have to be born with breathing ability above water to keep fish living in our state. Colorado could be shaken up with drier land eventually, but we can learn how to adapt, and so can everything else.

  20. One animal that would have to evolve would be the big horned sheep. Colorado has the biggest population of big horned sheep. They live in the mountains, so their coats are large and furry. Since some of the coats are black, the animals would overheat from the heat being kept in by their coat, since the color black attracts heat. To adapt, the sheep born with smaller and lighter coats would survive more. Soon, that would be the only population of big horned sheep.

  21. If Colorado were to get warmer and dryer I think the bear would have to change. The bear has long hair and if Colorado got warmer the bear would over heat and die. So if it didn't have as long hair it would be able to survive longer. And if it survived longer it would have been able to reproduce making more and then the whole bear population would have short hair. And if the hair is gone the bear would have more agility and stamina. This will allow them to hunt better leading to a easier life. That is what animal I think would have to change in order to stay alive.

  22. 2. Colorado is home of the grizzly bears. Each winter, the grizzly bear will hibernate (sleep for the winter). The rest of the year, the bear will spend most of its time hunting for fish, gathering berries, or preparing for the sleep of the winter. The bear is successful the way it works now. Nothing would have to evolve, however, the bear would not have to look for food in the other seasons, and could have a "normal" sleeping routine. All the bears would have to do is adapt to the way things work.

  23. Since the climate will most likely change to warmer and dryer, animals and plants would evolve to survive in their new habitat climate. For example polar and grizzly bears have migrated to mate together from the circumstances of their changing climates. Lynx and pine trees live in the forest. Lynx live well in the cold, for they have big fur and big paws to keep warm for the winter, yet they'd evolve with thinner fur and smaller paws to help them survive better in the warmer climate. On the other hand pine trees work well in all seasons and temperature. If the climate would be changed to be warmer, other trees would grow to make it a better environment for all organisms in the habitat. This might be how animals and plants would change over time in warmer and dryer climate.

  24. In Colorado, there is a diverse amount of animals that have evolved to survive the cold climates. But, as the temperatures get warmer and drier, this may create some of the animals to evolve to be more “fit” into their new and changing environments. For example, the Bison is native to Colorado and has developed a fur coat along with it’s thick skin in order for it to keep warm. In the future, this warm and dry weather can affect the Bison by allowing it to overheat and not be able to survive well. Thus, the Bison would have to evolve over generations to be capable to live in the new environments. The Bison would have to develop thinner skin and it would possibly have to decrease the amount of fur it has to keep cool. Also, it would need to have lighter skin so that it does not absorb as much heat from the sun. This would allow the Bison to keep water in the dry climate. Finally, with thinner skin, no fur coat, and lighter skin, this allows the Bison to successfully live in a warm and dry climate.

  25. If scientists are predicting that the climate, will be even more hot and dry in the future, the plants and animals of Colorado will have to adapt to their new environment. For example, Colorado's pine trees will need to adapt to their new warmer and dryer environment, by becoming less thirsty. If the plants and animals become less despereate for water, it would be easier for them to survive. If Colorado becomes scarce of water, the plants and animals will have to be able to survive, for a longer time without water. For instance the pine trees, will have to be able, to save their water that theu find, and use it wisely. Just like plants and animals that live in deserts, the animals of Colorado will have to adapt and learn how to survive in a fairly new environment.

  26. I think that one plant that would need to evolve to survive is a pine tree. They like cold weather and fare well in it. Pine trees get easily dried out and die. Warm and dry weather does that. Also, they would need to evolve to be more fireproof. Hot and dry weather is the perfect environment for wildfires. This is why the pine tree would need to evolve to survive.

  27. One organism that would evolve to adapt to the new environment is mountain goats. They would evolve to not need as much water. They would need to learn how to find cool places or caves to relax in during the day. They would need to grow thinner skin and fur to survive. They would have to adapt like this to survive in the new climate. If they didn’t evolve, they would probably die out because the heat would get to them. -Clara Louise

  28. The Kit Fox lives in the Colorado Desert. It survives here because it has adaptations that it has developed to survive best. This animal is a noctural hunter and comes out at night. It burrows underground to keep cool. This is an adaptation that will keep them living in the Colorado Desert longer because instead of overheating in the location they are in, these foxes have found a way to adapt to their surroundings. They have also adapted to getting water from their prey. Instead of wasting energy and time searching for water. Clearly, the Kit Fox has had to adapt to their environment and those adaptations will keep them alive in the Colorado Desert!

  29. Since, scientists have predicted that Colorado will become drier and have a warmer temperature, plants and animals have to adapt to stay alive. A animal that would have to adapt would be a moose. Since, moose live in wooded areas, they would have to adapt to stay alive. Trees are closure for mooses' and trees need water to live. The population of trees would decrease causing mooses' habitat to become visual. They would have to start protecting themselves and their young more. Also mooses' are herbivores, which means an animal that eats plants. If the plant of which the moose like to eat, decreases then they would habpve to find some other plants to eat to stay alive. But in some dry and warm places water does not evaporate. So if their was still water moose could eat plants get water and protect their young. The population of tree would only decrease by a little mot by a lot. The changing of temperatures would not affect moose. They can adapt to the changes and have peaceful lives.

  30. If the climate in Colorado gets warmer and drier, coyotes will have to evolve in order to successfully live in the new, warmer climate. Coyotes will have to evolve to have a thinner coat. Currently, coyotes have thick coats to sustain a warm body temperature, but if the average temperature rises, it will be a lot easier to have a warm body temperature and the extra fur can overheat the coyote. Coyotes might start hunting at night instead of during the day. The day is always warmer than the night. So to avoid hot temperatures, coyotes might have to adapt and hunt during the night.

  31. Foxes will continue to survive when Colorado in years to come gets hotter. This is because foxes are small and have some what short hair. Them being small can help find shade under rocks and in holes, the short hair can help with the fact that longer haired animals get dehydrated faster. The might need alittle help from adaptations. Like involving sweat glands (foxes do not have sweat glands) so like humans and dogs to stay cool. Also maybe adapt sandy colored fur, because reflects heat during the day.

  32. Because scientists are predicting a climate change in Colorado where it becomes warmer and drier, desert organisms will be able to survive more easily than the organisms in other habitats. One example of these organisms is the Texas Horned Lizard. This lizard has perfect camouflage to survive in the rocky sand of the desert. The horns on the lizard help it camouflage even more into the sand. It also can puff up when predators are nearby to make it hard to swallow. Both of these fortunate adaptations help the lizard survive in its sandy habitat. This lizard will be very successful if Colorado’s climate will change to warmer and drier.

  34. There are lots of little bugs that live in the rivers and creeks in Colorado. If the climate gets drier and warmer, these creeks could dry up, and the bugs might need to adapt to live on land. They could grow legs to walk instead of swim. They will also need to adapt to the oxygen in the air so they can breathe properly. If Colorado gets even warmer and drier, creeks and rivers will dry up very fast. If the bug species don't go extinct, they will need to adapt to the land around them.

  35. If a pine tree was to have to live in a drier environment, it would have to adapt for sure. If the environment was drier, that means that there wouldn’t as much water and all living things need water to survive. The pine tree would need to adapt to this by learning how to store water in an effective way so it doesn’t die of dehydration. It would have to be like a cactus in the way that it keeps water and knows how to use it wisely. Therefore, it might have to have a bit of a waxier coat to store the water. In conclusion, if Colorado got warmer and drier, the pine tree would have to adapt to have a way to store water more effectively.

  37. There are many animals that naturally live in Colorado that would need to adapt if warmer, drier weather arrived, but lets focus on one. This animal is called the Rainbow Trout. Rainbow trout are coldwater fish meaning if the water gets warmer, the fish would need to adapt a new and improved body cooling system to adapt to its new environment. Also, with this warmer drier weather, there would be less water in the rivers forcing another adaption to take place. The fish might make a physical adaptation to make it easier to swim in smaller, and more crowded rivers. Another factor that would be caused by the new weather is that there would be a downfall in the population of insects. This means that the food supply for the fish would decrease significantly making the fish find another source of food. In conclusion, if the weather in the future gets significantly warmer and drier, Rainbow Trout would have to find another source for food, create a new cooling system, and get used to the new compact environment.

  38. If scientists predict that in the future the climate will be much warmer and dryer then and animal that will have to adapt is a bear. This is because it has a big fur coat that keeps it warm when it snows because they typically live up in the mountains. They will also need smaller paws because right now their's are made to walk/run in the snow. Also, they will need different food sources because bears will most likely come down from the mountains and what they eat now lives up in the mountains so they will need to adapt to new food. As you can see a bear needs to evolve and adapt a lot if the colorado ends up being warmer and dryer.

  40. If Colorado were to undergo changes in the weather that would cause the climate to be a much warmer and drier place, I would say that the cutthroat trout would have to evolve to fit the new environment. The cutthroat trout is a fish that prefers to reside in cold water rather than in warmer water. If the general temperature altered in Colorado, this fish would have to adapt to temperatures in the streams and rivers. This species’ stomach might have to evolve because the stoneflies (and other sources of food) may hatch earlier or later than usual. These bugs might also have a different consistency, so the fish may need to alter their teeth. Naturally, with warmer weather, the health of the river are going to change; there may be more algae, or the rivers may be much more shallow, both of which will require changes in the cutthroat trout.

They would have to move places to live or evolve into something that can survive warm weather. They would need to change their living ways, such as what they eat, because many other sea creatures would die. Also they need to change their lungs a little to handle the weather change. Sharks would need to evolve to live in a warmer and dryer climate.

  42. In Colorado's ever-changing climate, many animals will have to evolve in order to be successful. One animal that is going to have to evolve to fit a warmer and drier climate is the grizzly bear. During the winter, grizzly bears put on a lot of fur. Since the winters are going to become warmer, the grizzly bears need less fur. They're going to have to evolve so they can hibernate the whole winter and they don't wake up due to the uncomfortable heat. This will help them survive better because they're less likely to die from heat stroke in the summer and they'll be able to hibernate better.

  43. The prairie dog will continue to be successful in Colorado because prairie dogs can survive in a warm and cold environment. The prairie dog learned to survive with very little water which they get from plants and bugs. Prairie dogs live in underground burrows in tunnels. Depending on the temperature the prairie dogs will either have a thicker coat or a thinner coat.

  44. A plant that lives in Colorado is a sunflower. This plant might need to evolve in the future to withstand the predicted hot and dry climates. A sunflower needs lots of sun and water to keep it alive. In the future if it is hot and dry a sunflower will get the sunshine it needs but maybe not so much of the rain due to the dryness of the soil and dirt. The sunflower might need to evolve some adaptations such as those of a cactus. The reason I say it might need to grow adaptations like a cactus is so that the sunflowers are able to get the water it needs in the dry hot climates and a key thing is that it will be able to keep the water for long periods of times in case it is continuously hot and dry without having rain for weeks. A sunflower is a plant that needs to evolve if it is going to live throughout the predicted hot and dry weather.

  45. Colorado someday will have a warmer drier environment. Many animals will have to adapt to survive here. One animal that would have to change a lot to survive in the different environment is the black bear. Something that would be very important for it to change is its color. Normally, in warmer environments forests are more lush. With the bears darker color they would not blend in with the dirt as well. Also, the bears would need to change their coats. Because they have very thick fur, they would need to evolve to having not very much of one. They can not survive in hot environments with a thick coat if there was a lot of heat. Another way that bears would have to evolve is by finding new food sources. If the environment was drier, there probably would not be as many streams. Because bears get some of their food from fishing they would need to eat something else. This is how bears would need to change to adapt to survive in Colorado's new environment.

  46. I think one animal that would have to change to survive in Colorado’s future climate would be a fish. If Colorado’s climate changed so it became drier and hotter, than many bodies of water would dry up. This would be cause for most of Colorado's fish to die, because of the lack of water. In addition to the death of fish, they might evolve into an animal that is fit for living above water. This climate change would show “survival of the fittest” because only the fish who inherit lungs would survive in the new dry climate. This situation would also be an example of VIST: the variation is how the fish obtain oxygen, the inheritance is which fish would inherit the gene mutation, the selection is which fish survive with the new climate, and time is how long it takes for the gene mutation to become normal.

The rabbits like to run into trees and bushes for cover, but if the wether gets even drier than it is today, those bushes and trees might not have enough water to survive. The rabbits are left on a bare ground and are more vulnerable to being eaten by a predator. The rabbits need to evolve bigger hands for digging. If the vegetation was their cover, but it is gone now then the ground will be their new cover. They could burrow into the ground to get away from a predator or if they are feeling too hot. But if the genetic mutations do not come to their favor, the rabbits would find it very hard to continue living in Colorado.

  49. I think that if the earth were to start having really dry and hot weather, plants would have to adapt for many reasons. One, because plants rely on weathering such as rain and snow to get the main part of their water supply. Second, is because really hot sun will not only feed the plants by photosynthesis, but burn the plants until they start to 'decay'. If a major chage in weather like this were to happen, plants would have to evolve so that they can find enough water in soil, and take in so much sun that they would not shrivel up! Some plants like flowers would have to adapt to these changes. But, plants like cactus would not have to change at all because they already live under these conditions! Almost all plants woul dhave to adapt and evolve in a different way, to live in warm dry weather. Ashlin Cromer per8

  51. I think because of the climate and weather this will affect the animals in colorado because of their habitat would change dramatically. And they would probably get hot because of their fur. And get dehydrated because of their habitat would be to dry to live in. So there wouldn't a lot of water, because of this some animals would possibly die. And right now its warm and cold and other weather in colorado so its good weather for animals to live in because the animals are adapted to the weather in colorado so they can live in either climate. But possibly not extreme cold and hot and dry weather. They would die because their bodies could not handle the extreme temperatures of the weather. because of the weather they wouldn't find food or water. The water would either be frozen or evaporated and the animals would be frozen and die or just die because of the heat.

  52. We have animals in colorado such as dogs. If we went from snowing to a drier and warmer climate the dog may have to adapt by shedding hair so they wont overheat.
They also would maybe have to start drinking more water so they don't get overheated. The dogs also might have to not "play" as hard so they can adapt to the wether and not overheat or get exhausted to fast. Thats basically how a dog could adapt to future climate changes in Colorado.

Although the spider in the summer comes out and is very comfortable in the summer time. As I said before it hides in the winter and comes out in the summer. The spider is just like a bee because the bee does the same thing. Both bees and spiders do the same process over and over . The spider has to continue doing this process otherwise the winter might kill the spider. The spider is comfortable in the summer because there isn't much cold temperature.

  54. I believe that the pine trees in Colorado will continue to survive in the harsh and worsening climate of Colorado. The Colorado pine can survive in many climates such as cold, dry, rocky slopes and high mountain ridges up to timberline. This does include dry. So as scientist said it would get more dry in Colorado the pine trees can survive in drier climate. Also Colorado has some very warm days in the summer and the pine trees still survive. I believe that the pine trees will continue to thrive and survive in Colorado.

  55. I think an animal that will survive in a dry, hot climate that will still living is a bunny because in the movie tinker bell the bunnies are colored brown but when it’s time for winter the animal fairies have to cross them to winter. When the bunnies crossed to the winter side they're coat changed. So that means that when it gets hotter the bunnies are going to change they're coat to brown or any other color which ever color looks better in their habitat because they adapt that kinda stuff. Every living thing (in this case bunnies) is adapted to enable it to cope with a particular habitat’s environmental factors such as the air, water, soil, light and temperature. That saying they are adapted to change in temperature. Therefore I think bunnies will survive to different habitats or when the weather changes.

  56. If what scientist state, that Colorado's climate will become more dry and hot, one plant that would not have to adapt to this dry and heated climate would be the a cactus. A cactus is already built to sustain large droughts, or withdrawals of water. The cactus also has protective spike or thorns to protect itself from predators seeking water. In the past, cacti have evolved to have shallow roots that are widespread. This adaptation allows them to conserve and gather water in large quantities to keep them alive and healthy during a drought. Therefore, because of the cactus's previous evolution, the cactus is well prepared for global warming from its amazing adaptation for conserving water in great quantities.

  57. If Colorado's climates were to change to a more, exhausted and dried up land like theme many animals and plants would have to evolve or adapt. One, example of this would be the beautiful life forms known as... Pigs. Reason for this is that pigs are sensitive to the sun; everybody has heard of pigs taking mud baths this is because they need to exfoliate and moisturize their skin. Now, if the climates of colorado changed and pigs were stuck in the middle of it I can only imagine that they would have to evolve to have better coped skin to combat the desiccated air and the lacerating sun. Another adaptation, would be a different form of inculcating the tegument of flesh. All of this, would be easily obviated due to the fact of human adroitness. This meaning, that humans would help the pigs as means of saving livestock. All this being said, pigs would have to evolve to have a more pragmatic skin type and an alternative way of saturating their skin. -William A

  58. One plant that currently lives in Colorado and will be able to continue to be successful in a warmer and drier environment is a cactus. Cacti are usually found in deserts so they have already adapted to the dry climate. In order to stay alive, the roots of a cactus will spread out to collect water when it rains. This water is then stored in the body of the cactus to be used whenever it is needed. Along with that, cacti also have little spikes all over their bodies that keep predators from eating them. These spikes also can catch water and then send the water to the body of the cactus. In all, cacti is one example of a plant that lives in Colorado that can survive the warm and dry weather for many reasons.

  59. Since scientist are predicting that Colorado's weather will be getting warmer and drier, I infer that bears will change. Winter would not be as long, therefore they would not have to hibernate. Also, bears would not have to be as fat. They would thin down, allowing them to be more lean and faster. Bears are large and fat, which allows them to live through Colorado's weather. With such a dramatic change in the weather, they would have to evolve.

The fur also isn't very absorbent to the water, this keeps it dry. The deer has adapted to survive and thrive. All of these weather changes doesn't even affect them.

  61. There are many plants and animals in a wide variety of species. Some of these plants and animals would flourish in a drier environment, while others would to have to make some serious changes in order to survive. For example, one of the animals that would flourish would be coyotes. They would do well because they need very minimal resources. This is true because they are scavengers. With this advantage they could survive for a while off of less fortunate animals. There are many more animals and plants that would flourish and perish in this type of environment.

  62. I think that the weather climate change to being more warm and drier would drastically affect the polar bears. I think for the polar bears to survive they would have to adapt to water better. The big ice covered oceans would become less icy and more ocean. The polar bears would have to become better swimmers to be able to transport and catch prey. They would probably loose the fluffy absorbent then grow webbed toes to be more adaptable to water. I think the polar bears would be able to adapt to the climate change.WP

  63. Lots of foxes live in Colorado. Foxes also in of like the heat. But one thing they do to survive is to sleep during the day and hunt at night. Foxes also have large ears, this helps them because the heat can escape from there veins and out the ears. Foxes have a pale color coat, so that color can help absorb less heat. Finally, a fox has a large coat, that helps it block the suns hot heat rays.

  64. 2. A plant called Prickly Pear cactus is a plant that would survive well in the future Colorado. This cactus would be good at surviving because cactus are made to survive in the warm weather. They survive well because they have a long root system that helps them collect a lot of water. They also have a long stem that stores all their water. Not only that they also have spikes instead of leave which reduces water loss. Lastly, they have thick skim that stores even more water and helps them survive. Thats why I think that the Prickly Pear cactus will survive in the future warm Colorado.

  65. 1) I think that a deer would probably evolve. I think this because of the climate change because it’s body temperature would increase and that would affect the deer a lot. Also it would have to change so it can adapt to the new environment and thats why it would have to evolve so it’s body temperature does not increase. Also another reason the animal would need to evolve is because of its predators maybe it would be easier for them to get eaten and thats why they would probably they would need to evolve so they can successfully survive in the new environment.

  66. The world has many animals. Some live in colder areas. Some don't. One animal that could evolve to live in a dryer, colder land would be a polar bear. I chose this animal because it has similar habits and mutations to a lot of other bears, and bears live in Colorado. This animal could evolve to live in a dryer area by having a thinner coat. Another way is a color change. If the polar bear changes it's coat color, it could blend easier. Plus, with it's supreme sense of smell, it could find prey easier. This is how a polar bear could adapt to dryer weather.

  67. I think one animal that will survive when the climate in Colorado changes from cold to warm is the grizzly bear. When the climate of colorado gets to be dry many of the plants will fry up. When the plants dry up herbivores will die off. Therefore, the bears will have nothing to eat. To adapt the bear has two options. It can either evolve to eat other foods, or move away from Colorado. The best decision in my opinion would be to move away from Colorado because evolution takes time. Wild bears in Colorado are very rare but i hope that they evolve or move to keep the species alive.

  68. One creature that has survived in Colorado is the trout. This trout has survived many deadly conditions. It has survived a drought because of its mutations. It has adapted enough to where it can stay cold in the summer and warm in the winter. The shring of genes also help produce mutations. Mutations aren't always a bad thing but help in the long run. One creature that has adapted to live in Colorado is the trout.

  69. An animal that would have to adapt to be to a drier and warmer environment would be the fish. This is because the dryness would dry out the rivers so the fish won’t be able to live there. So then the fish will need to grow legs. This way it can walk on the land. Plus the fish will also need to get lungs and loose the gills. This way it can breath normal air and not the water’s air. Finally, the fish might have to learn to hunt for food in a new way.For the reasons above I think that a fish would have to make a lot of adaptations to live in a warmer and drier environment.

  70. I think the pine tree might have to adapt to the new climate in order to live. The weather in colorado is changing because of global warming. The weather is now getting hotter in summers and colder in winters. I think that in order to survive this tree needs to take less water and have some sort of physical adaptation in order to adjust to warm and cold weather. To do this the plant would also need to photosensitize a lot in the summer and save some of the sugar for winter since there is not going to be sun very often. Then the tree will be able to survive to the new climate or it might go extinct. Sam A.

  71. Dear Mr. Andrews,
A human can adapt to the the dry environment in the future. We can use less water to conserve it and use it for drinking and limiting our bathing time. Also, people would wear long sleeve clothing to avoid getting sunburn and avoid getting dehydrated. People will develop better homes for the warmer conditions of the environment. Not to mention, human beings can evolve a little in this climate like darker skin in Africa. Human beings come in variety of features like body hair for colder climates. Overall this is how human beings can survive a drier, warmer environment.

  72. A black-tailed jackrabbit would survive successfully in a dry, warm place. Some black-tailed jackrabbits live in the Colorado desert. The black-tailed jackrabbit has long ears which helps any extra body heat evaporate into the surrounding air. The black-tailed jackrabbit stays in the shade during the day to avoid getting hot. At night it is colder so the black-tailed jackrabbit forages for its food then. These adaptations help the black-tailed jackrabbit survive in a drier or warmer climate.

  75. Colorado can be nice and warm one day but then bitter and cold the next. Scientists predict that our environment will become warm and drier. An animal or plant would have to evolve to be able to live in an environment like this. Lets take a bunny for example, the bunny could evolve over the years to keep water in its body like a camel so it does not get dehydrated if water is not near. With the weather being predicted as warm and dry, water is a necessity for all. Also the bunny could evolve to having a shorter coat. In result of this the bunnies will not be too hot in the warmer climate change. That is just one example of how bunnies could evolve in the Colorado predicted climate change.

  76. The environment in modern Colorado is hot and dry. For animals they need to survive by having thinner hair. If you have big and bushy hair then you will get too hot and then you will get a heat stroke. They could also have a lighter color of skin. If you have darker skin then you absorb the heat more. It is kind of like when you have a black shirt on. You will get hotter, but when you have a light color shirt the heat just goes though and doesn't get as hot. In Colorado also has a cold and snowy time of the year. It would be better for animals to have a thicker coat of fur of hair. That is what would help animals survive better in the winter.

  78. It will be a success because, if it is going to survive in a dry, warm place then it is perfect because, Colorado's climate is always changing off and on, one day it will be cold one day it will be really hot. Also its going to be a success because, of the adaptions. The adaptation will get used to that climate there and maybe it will go to the other plants or animals so they could live there, and make a population there. Adaptation can also help with this because, if the plant or animal is used to a different climate maybe the things that they adapted there can help them survive where they are now. Another way adaptation can work is by, maybe that the environment that they used to live in was not very wealthy for them so they had to adapt to the dry, warm place to help them get better to have more of that certain thing in they're population. Last but not least adaptation can help because, maybe in the environment they came from had negative things to adapt to then that population could of died but if the dry, warm environment has positive things to adapt to then it could save they're species.

  79. An animal that lives in Colorado now that might have to evolve to warmer or drier environments is a bear. Any type of bear in Colorado has a huge coat of fur that keeps them warm... (In the winter) If it got warmer outside they would overheat. Also if it was drier some salmon or other fishes rivers will dry out and the fish would die causing the bear to die. Bears would need to evolve to start eating plants and to get a thinner coat for the hot summers. Bears would also need to evolve teeth wise to start eating plants because its harder to eat plants with sharp teeth that can't grind and chew plants. All in all if it got hotter and drier in Colorado the typical bear would have to evolve to survive.

  80. One animal that would do well in this habitat would be ants. Ants would be good in this habitat because they naturally live in warm heat and live underground in cold weather. Also, they could get water from sage underwater water that is not affected by the heat. To support this, above ground would also be safer for them. Some of their worst predators would die out because they were not "fit". For example, small birds. Some ponds and lakes they lived off of may dry out, and the birds would die. In conclusion, ants would survive in the dry and warm because they could find underwater ponds and some of their predators would die out.

  81. I think that the plant that will be able to continue most easily in hot dry climates would be a cactus. I think this because a cactus is able to store water for weeks on end. It will just supply itself with water when it needs some and still have some left. And if it happens to run out of water, the occasional rain will come and resupply it. Also, the climate rise will not affect it much at all. The cactus already grows in desserts and very hot areas. Overall, I think the cactus is the plant that will survive long into the climate change.

  82. Colorado is having changes with it's weather, and is progressively getting warmer by the years. An animal I first thought of is an elk. An elk's natural habitat is you near the mountains in a colder climate. This animal would need to adapt to warmer weather with shorter fur. Also, their hooves could be used to get around on hard terrain like snow, so their feet would evolve to be more flat. The animals themselves would have to get used to the change by alternating their lifestyle a bit, to make it easier to fight off predators and find food. All in all, I think elk wouldn't remotely have much of a problem.

  83. In the future it is thought that it will get warm and dry, and some plants need lots of water to live. Aspen trees meet this requirement, they live near water and soak it up like its a hot summer day. If it gets warmer and drier here in Colorado Aspen trees will have to evolve to live. They will need to inherit a gene from the other trees to not take so much water. Or the trees could grow a gene that makes the roots of the tree dig deeper. If scientists are correct in that it will get drier in Colorado many plants and animals will need to evolve to live.

  84. If the climate of Colorado becomes warmer and drier it will affect some animal species more than. others. For a certain animal species they will have to adapt to the the new warmer and drier climate. One species that will have to adapt to be able to stay alive is the beaver. The beaver species are used to cold climates as well as wet climates so that they can build a dam in the middle of at lake, stream, or river. If the climate becomes warmer and drier the lakes, streams and rivers will start to dry up and get smaller. If the water ways get too small the beavers won't be able to live in them or build a new dam. The beaver would have to adapt by not having a fur coat suited for cold wet climates but for hot dry climates. They would also have to live apron land and make their little dams close to water but not in the water. This is what would happen to the beavers if Colorado's climate became hotter and drier.

  85. Even though it may not seem like it, there are plenty of cactus in Colorado. These cactus have special adaptations that keep them alive here when is it warm and dry. One adaptation is that they can store water inside of them for a long period of time. When it rains, they take that water and keep it inside them so whenever they need water, they already have it. Also, as you may know, cactus have spikes all over them. These spikes keep the predators away and keep them alive. Therefore, cactus have special adaptations to keep them alive in Colorado.

This particularize ting needs to somewhat fight to survive in Colorado environment, this animal is the Colorado buffalo. The buffalo imparticulare has to survive do to the recent extinction that it is going through. Although they also have a very strong suit in the way that it is the type of the muscle that they have is very strong and they can kill their prey and fight there preditors. Although on the other side of things lots of bad people like poachers and killers want to get the buffalo for there fur this makes it so that the more that are dissapering the more valuable they get for poachers so this makes them really extinct along with daisies and many other things so i think that over time the buffalo will go extinct. do ya.
